What Bowie Says

He says as we age we become the person we were always meant to be. I heard a Dr. speaking once and he said something to the effect that the majority of seniors are stagnant in themselves..unchangeable..but in a good way. They know who they are.

I know of a gentleman in a nursing home who “came out” at 90 years of age. The staff and residents had a big party for him. To me that exemplifies Bowie’s words.

It’s a great time to be alive and over 55.

Newly Awakened

After turning 50 and then 55 I started to notice I didnt give a shit about the little things in life that are annoying. Like the guy who gets on the bus when you’re still getting off. I just call him an asshole and get on with my commute. On the other hand I started caring even more intensely for the things in life that I am passionate about. Making change. I am really passionate about caring for others. Those I dont know and those I do.

In my work with seniors I have noticed subtle changes to the way we view ourselves as we age. We have become more of “ourselves”. Less of what others say we are.

Aging Authentically means being yourself, being happy with life and who you are. Aging Gratefully is for those who can see the “yes, I love it” every day.
